Thesis ProjectLevi's Leaves the Heritage Trap in the Rear View with "Behind Every Original"
Levi’s is a leading global denim brand with a long cultural history. In 2026, the brand returned to the intersection of sports, fashion, and culture for the first time in over two decades at Super Bowl LX. With signature stadium branding and a bold campaign with TBWA\Chiat\Day\LA, Levi’s took moving and shaking to a new height in the cultural moment and brought their values of empathy, originality, integrity, and courage to its forefront.
This report investigates Levi’s 2026 cultural renaissance through the “Behind Every Original” campaign using a qualitative analysis to gauge resonance with audiences and potential for brand buzz. The success and multigenerational reach of the campaign’s hero video, “Backstory,” social media content including celebrity ambassadors, and experiential marketing efforts serve as a testament to Levi’s ability to both retain a perception of authenticity and emphasize their legacy. This case study serves as a lesson in brand recognition, values alignment, and retaining cultural relevance for brands with rich heritage.
